Coronado Dunes Family Pictures | Best San Diego Candid Family Photographers

I’ve been photographing this family since the twins were still in their mama’s belly, and now look at us out here running around the Coronado sand dunes together well over a decade later! Getting to watch families grow through my camera is hands down one of the coolest parts of this job. We headed out to the dunes for their latest family session, where the soft sand, beach grass, and that pretty Coronado light gave us the easiest backdrop. And with kids who have been in front of my camera basically their entire lives, we got to jump right in and have fun.

If you’ve never considered the Coronado sand dunes for family photos, they’re such a good alternative to doing everything right at the water. You still get that unmistakable San Diego beach feel, but the dunes add texture and give kids room to move around without every photo feeling like a traditional beach portrait. I especially love this spot for families who want something relaxed and natural. And while I’ll always love meeting a brand-new family, there is something pretty amazing about photographing kids before they’re born and then getting to document all the versions of them that come afterward.
