She thought her friend had won a trip to San Diego and invited her along. Except... there was no trip to win. The whole thing was a setup to get her back to her hometown without suspecting a thing! Her friends brought her to the cliffs in Del Mar, one of her favorite spots from childhood, where the purple flowers were blooming and her boyfriend was waiting for her. She had NO idea he had even flown into San Diego. The surprise on her face when she spotted him was everything, and then came the proposal, a bottle of champagne, huge smiles, and definitely a few tears. Basically, this is why I love photographing proposals. You cannot fake these reactions!

And somehow, he still wasn't finished surprising her. After we took some newly-engaged photos around the cliffs, they walked over to a nearby restaurant where she thought the evening was continuing with just the two of them. Nope! More friends and family were there waiting to celebrate with them. If you're planning a surprise proposal in San Diego, choosing a location that actually means something to the two of you makes the whole thing that much better. And PLEASE hire a proposal photographer to secretly document it! The moment itself goes by ridiculously fast, and being able to look back at the exact second she realized what was happening, the tears afterward, and that just-engaged happiness is pretty hard to beat.
