Crystal Pier Family Portraits | San Diego Family Beach Photographer

If you follow me on social media, you probably know I’m a mom myself. One of the BEST things I could have ever done to become a better photographer was to have kids. Seriously! I was a photographer for about 7 years before I had my first kiddo, and while I’ve always been good with kids, my perspective during family shoots has completely changed since having my own. ESPECIALLY when you throw toddlers in the mix. My 3 year old, Grayson, is one of the most “spirited” kids you’ll ever meet, and yes, that’s a euphemism for crazy. But as “crazy” as he can be, I relish in his sweet heart & fun-loving spirit. So while shoots with him may not be easy, I strive to capture that spirit when I photograph him, and it’s translated to the families I photograph too!

These guys are on vacation in San Diego and decided to do some sunset family portraits in PB at the Crystal Pier. Between kiddo #1 running straight into the ocean within minutes of our shoot, and kiddo #2 drooling & spitting up all over both mom AND dad, these poor parents were a bit stressed! We kept the mood super light, focused on candid moments, and I’m absolutely in love with the result. Check out our fun family session here!

La Jolla Family Photographer | Scripps Pier, San Diego

There’s something really special about photo shoots with older (adult) children. The dynamic is obviously totally different from sessions with toddlers, and while I LOVE getting littles to smile, I also love the relaxed, laid back nature of a family shoot with older “kids”! These guys are in town from all over, and decided to do their family portrait session at the Scripps Pier in La Jolla, as it’s a sentimental spot for them. I was so happy to oblige, as it’s one of my favorite spots when conditions allow (low tide + sunset + <3) and they lined up perfectly for this shoot!

Pacific Beach Engagement Photos | Crystal Pier, San Diego

As you can probably tell from my website, the majority of my work is with families & kids. However, I LOOOOVE me a good engagement session! I used to do a lot more of them back when I shot weddings, and while I don’t miss 12 hour wedding days, I miss engagement sessions terribly. So I always get super excited when an engagement shoot inquiry comes in!

These two were visiting San Diego & decided there was no better place for their engagement shoot than by the beach! We met at the Crystal Pier in PB for our sunset session, and I absolutely loved getting to know these two (they’re fellow Friends fans, so we had a lot of Friends references to drop!).

San Diego Beach Family Photographer | Hotel Del Coronado

I love this new(ish) trend of booking a family photographer while on vacation… what better souvenir than awesome family portraits of your extended family in San Diego?! These guys were staying at the Hotel Del Coronado, so we utilized the beach in front of it for some fun portraits! I loved how they specifically asked for tons of candid shots once the “formal” portrait part was done, and I had a blast photographing them playing around with their kids. Check out this fun extended family session below!

North Park Family Photo Session | San Diego Photographer

One of the coolest things about my job is I get to hang out in the most unique locations & find the coolest spots for photos! This session was definitely all about that, as it was in one of my favorite areas of San Diego: North Park!

This awesome family is fairly new to San Diego & wanted to take advantage of the colorful murals & urban backdrops North Park has to offer. I loved working with them so much, and we even discovered our kiddos share a birthday! How rare is that?!

Check out this fun, playful, and colorful San Diego photo session!
