It’s been awhile since I’ve been down to La Jolla Cove. I think the parking turns me off. Plus, the beach is very subject to the tides which have to line up perfectly with the best time for lighting in order to make a shoot here possible. Luckily, when Aryn mentioned she was thinking about the Cove for her maternity photos, I was willing to face the crowds (which weren’t too bad on a weekday!) and the tide/lighting times lined up perfectly!! I’m so glad we came down here; being San Diego born & raised, I really take the beach for granted sometimes!! Aryn & I went to high school together and she’s expecting a little baby boy at the end of next month!! I love seeing so many classmates & friends welcome little ones into the world!! Such an exciting time!!

I am so blessed to have married into the wonderful family I did… I absolutely love my in-laws; every last one of them!! I am so honored that one of my new cousins, Erika, referred one of her friends to me! Erika & Tanya have known each other since Middle School I believe & it was a big honor to take Tanya’s maternity photos!! She brought along little Viviana to be in the photos & I can tell she’s going to be a great big sister!! Tanya was just glowing & the beautiful lighting at Balboa Park in the afternoon was perfect for this session!

I absolutely love when my engagement couples come back to me because they’re having a baby!! I feel so honored to capture such significant milestones in their lives & it’s such an awesome thing to see how they’ve grown into a family since their engagement! Vanessa & Paul did engagement sessions a couple years ago in La Jolla as part of my Groupon & then sadly moved up to Washington! Luckily, they decided to have their baby shower down here & wanted to hire me to cover it! It’s such a great idea to hire a professional photographer for events like this… guests kept coming up to me & thanking me for being there, saying how nice it was they didn’t have to take out their cameras! The theme of the nursery is pink & lime, so all of the guests dressed accordingly… such a cute idea!! All the pink & lime food looked fantastic (I nibbled on some of those cherry pretzels… couldn’t help myself) and the attention to detail made everything so pretty! Vanessa & Paul are such a great couple & were surrounded by awesome family & friends at the shower… little Emma is going to be loved by many people, that’s for sure!!

Chasing Daylight Photography is announcing the launch of the brand new Bellies & Birthdays program!!! This program is designed with expecting moms & dads in mind, to help you save money while capturing all of your little one’s first year milestones! It’s pretty nice because the biggest milestones typically occur in 3 month intervals… baby starts holding their head up around 3 months, sitting up around 6 months, standing up while holding onto something around 9 months, and walking around 12 months! Purchase one of these packages to capture as few or as many of these special milestones as you’d like, and save money in the long run!

I offer registry gift certificates too, so you can always register for all or part of a package for your baby shower! This would make for a really awesome gift, and is even easier to pay for when people help you out! Gift certificates are available in any denomination, so make sure your friends & family contact me if they’d like to help out!

Package 1: Bellies & Babies

Includes the following sessions:
1 hour basic maternity session
1 hour basic newborn session
Photographer’s Favorite 30 photos from each session retouched on CD
Cost: $450 (save $50 from purchasing separately)

Package 2: Bellies, Babies, & a Birthday!

Includes Package 1 along with:
1 hour basic session at 6 months
1 hour basic session at 1 year
Photographer’s Favorite 30 photos from each session retouched on CD
Cost: $900 (save $100 from purchasing separately)

Package 3: Mommy, Milestones, & Makin’ a Mess!

Includes Package 2 along with:
30 minute mini session at 3 months
30 minute mini session at 9 months
15 minute cake smash session after the 1 year photos (we give your little one their very own cake & let them go at it!!)
Photographer’s Favorite 15 images retouched on CD from the mini sessions, 30 retouched images from the basic sessions
Cost: $1,150 (save $250 from purchasing separately… the best value!)

As a special offer until July 2012, purchase any of these packages & receive 2 hours of baby shower photography (within San Diego County) for just $99 extra! That’s a huge savings as event coverage usually costs upwards of $250 an hour!

I offer payment plans to make affording these sessions super easy! Pay 50% down to reserve your spot in the program, and you can make payments on the rest!

Sessions are designed around the little one. Additional family members are welcome for part of each session, as long as the majority of the session is just the child. This policy applies mostly to the interval sessions (3, 6, 9 months) as I’m totally okay with more family photos for newborn & 1 year sessions. Family member limit is 6 (including pets). Contact me if you have any questions.

I absolutely love watching little ones grow up & these sessions are among my favorite sessions ever!! I’ve never met anyone who wished they took LESS photos of their baby’s first year of life… I only meet those who wished they took more!! Your little one changes so fast during the first year… be sure to capture every moment!!

Ashley & Matt were such a fun couple to kick start 2012 for me!! I had a bit of a break there, so they are my first clients of the new year & they definitely eased me back into work-mode by being super friendly & fun!! Pregnancy looks SO good on Ashley; she’s glowing & absolutely gorgeous!! I just love maternity sessions; there’s so much anticipation for what’s to come in the near future! I really hope these guys come to me for newborn photos in February; I can just tell their little girl is going to be super adorable!!

I often get asked the question “What should I wear to my photo shoot?” While style varies for everyone, there are some basic guidelines to follow:

1. Stay away from super bright, warm colors

We’re talking hot pink, bright red, orange, etc. I always suggest neutrals or neutrals paired with lighter colors. They make the backdrops pop & typically flatter skintone.

2. Dress (kinda) comfortably

If your clothes are uncomfortable, you’ll be uncomfortable… and you’ll look uncomfortable in your photos! If you decide to wear a skirt, make sure it’s long enough to where you can sit down without worrying about giving anyone a show! OR if you do want to go a bit dressy, bring a casual outfit change as well, so we can grab some of those candid, sitting on the ground shots without worrying about the dry cleaning bill!

3. Try to stay away from “matchy matchy”

We’ve all seen it done, and there’s good reason for it… it’s a classic look! The matching white polo shirts & khakis, jeans, black pants, etc. Most people have probably seen this look done & loved it, so they decide to do it themselves. While I welcome all clients & opinions, I do find the photos are more interesting when you mix it up a bit. Maybe you still want to do white tops & jeans, but everyone wears a different style of white shirt… or maybe someone’s in a white dress, or jean skirt instead of jean pants. Just a little variety goes a long way in making your photos look current, without losing that classic touch.

4. Dress for the weather

Is it supposed to be windy for your beach session in December? Please coordinate your outfits to include long pants & sweaters! There’s nothing worse than families that look miserable standing in the cold in dresses & or shorts! Plus, if you want your kiddos to smile in the photos, sticking them in freezing cold weather with nothing but a tank top dress isn’t going to do the trick! If you picture dresses & warm-weather clothing in your photos, schedule a session during the spring or summer months… and opt for a late afternoon session over a morning session!

I was browsing through online boutiques the other day & came across this awesome guide of trendy outfits for women… I absolutely love this stuff & it looks great in photos! This is just an idea of some of the current trends that are going on right now… pair these looks with a beautiful smile, pretty location & warm backlighting & voila! Your pictures will turn out amazing!!!

This is the third time I’ve had this beautiful family in front of my lens & they just get cuter & cuter!! Little Leo has grown so much since our first session together & now he’s going to be a big brother!! These guys are such troopers… they didn’t even complain when the tide came in a bit higher than expected & soaked our shoes (my poor Toms will never be the same!) but it was sooo worth it to snap these adorable maternity photos down at the Cove. I love La Jolla Cove in the morning… no people, beautiful beaches… what more could I ask for??

Have you noticed that Old Poway Park has been one of my favorite locations lately? I just absolutely love this place! The afternoon lighting here is warm & amazing & I am obsessed with the way it sparkles through the trees in soft backgrounds. I even had my own engagement photos taken here… after shooting in over 50 different locations in San Diego County, that’s saying a lot!

This little family is so sweet; I first met them last year (another Groupon!) & had two sessions with them within the first 6 months of meeting them. That’s what I like to hear! They’re expecting baby #2 (a boy this time!) in December so I was honored to capture some very special maternity photos along with their yearly Christmas photos!

I’ve known Sarah for probably close to 15 or 20 years now… she and I used to dance together & her sister & I were very close friends. She & Jerome have been together FOREVER it seems like & I was so excited when I heard they were expecting!!! I absolutely love taking photographs of my friends & helping them remember important moments in time like this one. I felt like the blog was lacking some black & white action so I picked these to show off. A lot of my favorite images are black & white… I just also love bright, warm lighting too so it’s hard to take that away! Some moments are just better expressed in black & white though. Congrats to Sarah & Jerome… I can’t wait to meet little Layla later this month!! I’ve got my money on a Halloween baby!
