I’ve known Sarah since we were in elementary school! We used to take the same dance class as kids & her little sister was one of my best friends growing up! I was honored to do her maternity photos about 8 months ago & took little Layla’s newborn photos when she arrived! She’s now 6 months old & sitting up like a champ!! She’s SO adorable & even knows to smile when she hears the word “CHEESE!” It’s a photographer’s dream!! Check out Sarah, Jerome, & Layla’s Balboa Park session!!

Amy & Oliver met with me at Old Poway Park on Saturday for their session! Little Oliver is about to turn one, so Amy wanted most of the session to be of him, however she jumped in a few to celebrate Mother’s Day. This kid has the most beautiful blue eyes I have ever seen!! Old Poway Park is such a fun spot for little boys… it has a few old trains, train tracks, and lots of open grass areas for them to run around in!! This day was a bit crazy at the park; with Poway High School’s Prom being on the same day, there were about three dozen high schoolers dressed all fancy taking photos as well as a wedding going on at the same time! I love the challenge of on-location photography & we definitely made it work!!

There is nothing more rewarding than a referral from another client! Christine & her family met me this past weekend because they were referred to me by a family I adore very much!! Even though the session theme was Mother’s Day, I love that Dad came along & I couldn’t help but throw him in a few shots! These kiddos were super cooperative (and way adorable!) and loved all my silly bathroom words & jokes (how come the mention of “fart” will produce a smile about 99.9% of the time?!). It’s not glamorous but I do what I need to do to get a genuine smile, that’s for sure!!! These guys didn’t need much help though; they did great!!

I’ve been trying to keep up with the holiday mini sessions this year! It’s difficult, because most sessions have to be done pretty far in advance of the holiday, so photos are actually edited & received by said holiday. However, for Mother’s Day I wanted to make the photoshoot itself the celebration so I decided to make it the day before Mother’s Day (because, of course, Mother’s Day itself is reserved for my very own special mama & my awesome mother-in-law!).

I just love Kristen & Sage!! Kristen has referred so many people to me I can’t even count! And she’s always such an awesome person; she donates each year to causes that myself & Chasing Daylight Photography support like the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Light the Night Walk which we do each year to celebrate another year of my mom’s remission from Non-hodgkins Lymphoma & most recently the March of Dimes. I’m also donating to a really cool charity she works with called Partying for a Purpose (check out their Facebook page here: http://www.facebook.com/partyingforapurpose). Kristen wanted a more casual, candid photo shoot this time around & I really had fun just capturing some sweet moments between mother & daughter!!

So many newborns lately!! I love it!! This little sweetheart was SO good for our session. She slept pretty much the whole time & only had one little pee pee accident…hahaha! I tell ya, my job isn’t always glamorous but I will gladly put up with washing & sanitizing blankets for shots like these!! So sweet!!

I just finished my last Groupon!!! Haha I know what you guys are thinking; those expired well over a year ago! Well, this family was going through some really tough stuff & contacted me prior to the expiration date to see if I’d honor it this year. Considering what they were dealing with, I had no problem doing so!! Luckily everything seems to be going much better now & so we were able to do our session at Balboa Park! I just love the late afternoon sun in the Alcazar Garden, especially in the Spring. A great spot for a photo shoot for sure!!

Wow! This is the longest blog title ever!

Let me start by saying I absolutely adore this family! Carla & Cameron came to me in a bit of a bind a little over 3 years ago. Their original maternity photographer had to cancel, and they needed a new one quickly!! I had only been in business a short while (I think it was actually called something else back then but can’t remember what!) & I informed them I had actually never done maternity photos before. Carla put her faith in me & booked me anyway & we met up for a session at La Jolla Cove!

The photos came out great & I have been their photographer ever since! Little Natalia is now three years old & Carla & Cameron are expecting their second!! They decided to do a REALLY cool thing at Natalia’s 3rd birthday party… the gender reveal (to themselves too!) of their baby-on-the-way!! They had the ultrasound tech seal the gender in an envelope & they handed that envelope to a baker. They had the baker make a cake with white fondant on the outside & either pink or blue on the inside, depending on the gender! So when they cut the cake, they’d find out what they’re having!! Read on to see the result!!

Yep!! It’s a boy!! Congratulations, guys!!

What’s up with this San Diego weather lately?! It’s been so dark & gloomy; I’m ready for some sunshine… and I hardly ever have to say that!! Luckily for me, the only sunny day in the past week was on Saturday when I joined my aunt & uncle (and their furchild, Barney!) at Balboa Park for a beautiful afternoon session! Barney is 14 going on 15 & she gets around like a champ! I do have a soft spot in my heart for Golden Retrievers… my husband & I just adopted our first puppy ever a few weeks back. More on that to come later, but for now check out how awesome this doggy is & how adorable her parents are!!

Spring Mini Sessions have been going fabulously!! I got to see these guys again which was super fun!! Love the energy this family has & I remember them well from their last session! These kids are so sweet & fun-loving; I never have to try hard to get a smile out of them, which always makes my life easier!! I just love Springtime so I’m having so much fun with these props!!

You might recognize Amy & Ken from a photoshoot we did at Old Poway Park a few months ago. I was so flattered when Amy called me & wanted to schedule another shoot!! They even brought their dog along for some super cute doggy photos (I LOVE Cocker Spaniels!) and we had a lot of fun & shared some laughs while trying to get her attention. :) I think it’s SO important for families to take photos together even after the kids are grown. My last family portrait (besides the obligatory ones at weddings and such) was when I was SIX. Over twenty years ago!! Every time grown children call me to schedule photoshoots with their parents, I’m inspired to get my family together for a session, but to this day I haven’t done it yet. I need to start following my own advice!!!
