I’ve known Sarah since we were in elementary school! We used to take the same dance class as kids & her little sister was one of my best friends growing up! I was honored to do her maternity photos about 8 months ago & took little Layla’s newborn photos when she arrived! She’s now 6 months old & sitting up like a champ!! She’s SO adorable & even knows to smile when she hears the word “CHEESE!” It’s a photographer’s dream!! Check out Sarah, Jerome, & Layla’s Balboa Park session!!

Amy & Oliver met with me at Old Poway Park on Saturday for their session! Little Oliver is about to turn one, so Amy wanted most of the session to be of him, however she jumped in a few to celebrate Mother’s Day. This kid has the most beautiful blue eyes I have ever seen!! Old Poway Park is such a fun spot for little boys… it has a few old trains, train tracks, and lots of open grass areas for them to run around in!! This day was a bit crazy at the park; with Poway High School’s Prom being on the same day, there were about three dozen high schoolers dressed all fancy taking photos as well as a wedding going on at the same time! I love the challenge of on-location photography & we definitely made it work!!

I’ve been trying to keep up with the holiday mini sessions this year! It’s difficult, because most sessions have to be done pretty far in advance of the holiday, so photos are actually edited & received by said holiday. However, for Mother’s Day I wanted to make the photoshoot itself the celebration so I decided to make it the day before Mother’s Day (because, of course, Mother’s Day itself is reserved for my very own special mama & my awesome mother-in-law!).
I just love Kristen & Sage!! Kristen has referred so many people to me I can’t even count! And she’s always such an awesome person; she donates each year to causes that myself & Chasing Daylight Photography support like the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Light the Night Walk which we do each year to celebrate another year of my mom’s remission from Non-hodgkins Lymphoma & most recently the March of Dimes. I’m also donating to a really cool charity she works with called Partying for a Purpose (check out their Facebook page here: http://www.facebook.com/partyingforapurpose). Kristen wanted a more casual, candid photo shoot this time around & I really had fun just capturing some sweet moments between mother & daughter!!

I just finished my last Groupon!!! Haha I know what you guys are thinking; those expired well over a year ago! Well, this family was going through some really tough stuff & contacted me prior to the expiration date to see if I’d honor it this year. Considering what they were dealing with, I had no problem doing so!! Luckily everything seems to be going much better now & so we were able to do our session at Balboa Park! I just love the late afternoon sun in the Alcazar Garden, especially in the Spring. A great spot for a photo shoot for sure!!

Wow! This is the longest blog title ever!
Let me start by saying I absolutely adore this family! Carla & Cameron came to me in a bit of a bind a little over 3 years ago. Their original maternity photographer had to cancel, and they needed a new one quickly!! I had only been in business a short while (I think it was actually called something else back then but can’t remember what!) & I informed them I had actually never done maternity photos before. Carla put her faith in me & booked me anyway & we met up for a session at La Jolla Cove!
The photos came out great & I have been their photographer ever since! Little Natalia is now three years old & Carla & Cameron are expecting their second!! They decided to do a REALLY cool thing at Natalia’s 3rd birthday party… the gender reveal (to themselves too!) of their baby-on-the-way!! They had the ultrasound tech seal the gender in an envelope & they handed that envelope to a baker. They had the baker make a cake with white fondant on the outside & either pink or blue on the inside, depending on the gender! So when they cut the cake, they’d find out what they’re having!! Read on to see the result!!

Yep!! It’s a boy!! Congratulations, guys!!

Little Elias is turning one!!! We celebrated his birthday with a mini session at Old Poway Park & finished it off with a cake smash!! I absolutely love these sessions…. it’s so fun to watch the little ones explore their very own little cake! He wasn’t TOO sure what this whole cake business was all about but he definitely got a mouthful in anyway!! His little outfit matched his cake too… freaking adorable! I can’t believe I get paid to hang out with these little cuties & be present for so many fun milestones!!

Spring is here!! That means more & more spring mini sessions will be coming to the blog! Next week will be crazy… two dozen mini sessions in one week!! I’m looking forward to it though… they have been REALLY cute so far!!
Check out these kids… this is my fourth time photographing them & even though they moved to Las Vegas, I’m so happy they STILL contact me when they’re in town for their photos!! I’ll have to make a trip out to them next time… tax deductible trip to Vegas? Alright, if you force me.

I’ve seen these cute kiddos three times now!! Love all my sessions with the Rodelander family… these kids are super adorable & full of energy: just how I think kids should be!! We met this time in their neighborhood park which was a great spot because the kids were familiar with it & it was really pretty! Sometimes it’s a good idea if your kids are energetic to keep a session local & at a familiar spot; it ensures the kids won’t be too distracted by new places & things to look at, and allows us to have a smooth, happy session! This was definitely the case for these guys; they did so great!!

The lovely Miss Hanna has graced the blog before & she was the first kiddo to participate in 2012′s Spring Mini Sessions! We met up in Balboa Park at the Spanish Pavilion for some colorful backdrops & spring-y spots to shoot! I brought along some plastic Easter eggs and she brought Jellybean (the bunny) which made for such a fun session! This session was pretty unique in that Hanna’s mom really wanted photos ASAP to show off her one missing tooth in the front of her adorable smile! As it turns out, the second of her front teeth was barely hanging on when we started shooting (leading to some funny, hillbilly-type outtake shots!) and with a little encouragement from mom & dad, Hanna popped out the second tooth about halfway through her session!! Whatta trooper!! I know I lost my teeth as a kid, but there’s something about yanking a tooth out that gives me the heeby jeebies a little bit!! Hanna did great though & showed off her super adorable gap for the last part of the day!! So cute!!

I was so happy to get to spend some time with Maura & adorable little Quinn this past weekend! I’ve met Maura a handful of times… first at Miss Quinn’s newborn session, and then as she was a bridesmaid in a wedding! Little Quinn has grown quite a bit since the last couple times I saw her & she is cute as ever!! She was a bit coy at her session, wasn’t TOO stoked to be there, haha, but with that little face, we don’t need every photo to be a big smile; she’s adorable no matter what!!
